Heelys

Woo-hoo!! Once I become a bit more solvent, I, too, will be gliding around the mall/grocery store with the greatest of ease.
Sent to you by Chris P via Google Reader: Heelys via Cool Tools on 9/18/08 Whippersnappers have been skating around on these single-wheeled skate shoes since the early 00’s. Seeing them coast through mini-malls, supermarkets and movie theaters, I started to get jealous/curious. Turns out we don’t have to let kids have all the fun! They come in adult sizes, too. I had to special order mine and they didn’t arrive for a few months, but it was worth the wait. Gliding across the pavement is every bit as glorious as it appears. Kids make it look deceptively simple. I’ve really had to work to balance (Ironically, I’ve tended to stumble more while simply walking in them — and yes, these things are potentially dangerous, so be wary). My friends think I’m crazy, but there’s certainly something to be said for not letting yourself feel too old to try new things.

The case for telecommuting

This is a picture of the technician replacing the battery in my car, once it was figured out that it was my battery.

Apparently, you can have a battery that has plenty of voltage, and no amperage. Which means that there is plenty of electrical pressure, but no actual power within that pressure.

Anyway, 65 dollars later, I was driving around just fine.

The Forth of July Postmortem

July 16th, 2008 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Hmm, it would seem that I have completely lost any and all interest in fireworks on pretty much any level. For those who don’t know, I moved up here to this area in 2000. It was at that time I was introduced (formally,) to the “Postage Stamp Property” size. You see, growing up, I never lived as close to as many people as I do now.

And everybody that has kids, especially boys, seems bent on spending at least three digits on things that go “POP!”, “BANG!”, or result in phrases such as “Oh my GOD! My hand! My Hand!.”

And so it was this year as well. I am glad to have found out, though, that there are limits to how long one can legally fire off fireworks in the state of WA. You get from June 28 through July 5th, and the latest you can fire them off is 11:00pm.

We spent this year as we have the past few years, over at a friend’s block party. And at around 9 or so everybody who hasn’t already been firing off fireworks starts to fire them off as well.

The cool thing was when we got home that night, the wife and I spent about forty-five minutes or so sitting in our living room watching everybody else firing them off around us in our nieghborhood. Which was cool.

On a brighter note, I was able to spend the weekend previous to the forth up in Seattle. We (a friend and I,) went up so that he could hang out with some friends of his. I was also introduced to a most interesting game: Munchkin. (Mandatory Wikipedia link) Incedibly fun and soon to be a part of my relatively short list non-computer games. If anybody wants to play once I have this gem, feel free to let me know, and I will see what my schedule allows.

New gaming addiction and movie watching weekend.

May 22nd, 2008 · No Comments · Mobile

I gave a name to my new addiction and I call it “Tower Defence.”

I found Vector Defence to be especially good. I think it’s the apparent simplicity hiding extremely deep strategy and tactics..

Garden Defense - Awesome Tower Defense Game

This will be a movie watching weekend. I’m gonna be seeing Indy 4 on
Saturday afternoon. And then afterwards, later that evening, I’m gonna
be watching Prince Caspian with my wifey after dinner, with just about
everybody that can make it. Hope to see you all this weekend..
